Family Accommodation

Planning a family holiday in the Daintree?
Here's some information to help you make it a success, from family friendly
accommodation to tours that offer family discounts.
The Daintree is a good safe family holiday destination as long as you
observe a few basic rules:
Do not allow your children to go to the water's edge of the Daintree
River and other mangrove lined creeks, this is crocodile territory,
and even though you may not see crocodiles, they probably see you! A
crocodile can swim under water at high speed without a ripple on the
surface, and burst out with enough speed and power to take horses and
cows!
Playing on the beach is no problem, it is simply not in the crocodile's
behaviour to attack on a beach.
During the summer months, roughly November till May, there can be box
jellyfish in the ocean, keep out of the sea or wear a stinger suit.
Don't let your kids feed the cassowary if you are lucky enough to bump
in to one.
Accommodation for families
The B&Bs are usually not set up for children, but
there is a good choice of holiday
homes available to rent which will give you more privacy and freedom,
and the opportunity to cook your own meals.
Resorts with swimming
pools can be another good choice, but probably not PK's, which caters
more for the party-hard crowds. And there are also several camping
areas in the Daintree for the more adventurous.
Rainforest Hideaway
Cape Tribulation

Rainforest Hideaway at Cape Tribulation
normally operates as a B&B, but you can also have the place
to yourself for a family of up to 6 people.
Please note that there are several unfenced fishponds, so you need
to keep an eye on your children.
This unique jungle style house will give you both comfort and an
insight into living in the rainforest on solar electricity and water
from the creek, and away from mobile phone reception and hair dryers.
Being deep inside the Daintree rainforest also guarantees abundant
wildlife; bandicoots, birds, frogs, goannas, and even the famous
cassowary pay a visit here!

Things to do with families
You can't go wrong with a visit to the Daintree Icecream
Company, try homemade icecream with such flavours as soursop, wattle
seed, mango, and a lot more that you have never even heard of!
Find the Daintree Icecream Company on the main road between Cow Bay
and Cooper Creek.
There is another homemade icecream place in Floravilla on the corner
of the main road and the road to Cow Bay Beach.
Besides sea kayaking tours you can also hire your own
kayak for a famly adventure, at Cape Tribulation Camping and the Cape
Trib Beachhouse.
In Whet, Cape Tribulation's favourite restaurant, there
is a small 25 comfy seats cinema upstairs, which shows movies at 2PM,
4PM and 8PM. Especially on rainy days, which can happen in a rainforest,
a great idea!
At Lync Haven they have some kangaroos hopping around
in a fenced off area.
In Cape Tribulation there is the Snake House, free entry
to see some pretty big pythons!
And of course there are numerous beaches to play around
on and rainforest walks to do.
Compared to other destinations there are perhaps not a lot of attractions
specially for children, so if your children are not interested in nature
based activities then perhaps the Daintree is not the right destination
for your family....
